Plushform - Totally Customizable Designer Stuffed Toy

FAQ

Since Plushform is an all-new way to customize a toy, we can imagine you have a question or two. Look no further! If by chance we missed something, let us know...

Q. Where can I buy Plushform?
A. Plushform will be available officially June 27th 2008. At that time, in addition to this site, you can buy Plushform from a number of stores around the world. Get in touch here, and we'll respond as soon as possible with a list of stores in your area. Be sure to let us know where you're located! In the meantime, stop by booth #1057 at NYCC Apr 18 - 20 to pick up Plushform for a limited time.

Q. What materials can I use with my Plushform?
A. Practically anything! We know any 2D media will work including but not limited to pen, pencil, charcoal, marker, acrylic paint, oil paint, spray paint, ink, washes and much more. And that's just stuff directly on the surface – imagine what can be added to this 3D form, whether it's glued, sewn or otherwise. Since this is a relatively new product, we're anxious to hear what you do with your Plushform, so be sure to get in touch with us and, better yet, send us photos of your work either via our image upload utility or via our Flickr group. We hope there are no limitations.

Q. Is my Plushform washable?
A. While we imagine the form itself could be washed right out of the box, we don't recommend submerging your Plushform in water, or popping it in the dryer. Like blank vinyl toys, Plushform isn't exactly reusable, unless you re-prime and sand the surface. If for some reason your blank Plushform gets dirty before you work on it, we recommend a bit of spot cleaning with a damp cloth and some mild soap. After working on your Plushform – as with all artwork – use extreme caution using any detergent on the surface. Please refer to the manufacturer's web site for the material you're using for the best advice for cleaning if absolutely necessary.

Q. Do I have to prime and/or sand my Plushform?
A. No, Plushform is ready to work on right out of the box. However, if you're using a specific media that requires a special surface, you may need to coat it. Likewise, if you require a very smooth surface, you may want to re-prime and lightly sand the surface of your Plushform, and repeat as necessary. As with all sanding, spray painting and other such activities, we strongly recommend the use of a respirator or other face coverings.

Q. Once I'm finished, how do I protect my Plushform surface?
A. A brushed on or spray clear coat should do the trick. Make sure the media you used is compatible with the various types of clear coats available. As with all sanding, spray painting and other such activities, we strongly recommend the use of a respirator or other face coverings.

Q. Will the surface of my Plushform crack if painted?
A. Because of the nature of Plushform – that is, a stuffed thing rather than a relatively hard vinyl toy – there is the possibility of thick paint and other hard coatings cracking if the Plushform is squeezed or handled roughly (especially if the paint becomes brittle over time!). We suggest displaying your finished Plushform in the same way fragile customized vinyl toys are displayed: On a shelf, or in a glass case, not handled unless absolutely necessary.

Q. How do I add things to my Plushform?
A. While most adhesives like hot glue and epoxy will do the trick, Plushform is unique in that you can sew fabric and other things onto the soft, rounded surface. A curved upholstery needle (see image below) and appropriate thread or yarn should do the trick if attaching additional fabric or stuffed appendages to your Plushform. Be careful when sewing, and use a thimble if necessary, to protect your fingers and the rest of your body!

Q. Why is the little tag on the side of my Plushform blank?
A. We left the front side of the little tag on your Plushform blank for your lovely signature or to customize as you see fit. The back needs to have the info printed on there for legal reasons, sorry.

Q. Will there be more Plushforms?
A. Absolutely! Look for more new Plushform shapes in the months to come.

Q. This shape looks familiar. Why is that?
A. You have a keen eye! The first Plushform is based on the popular Wee Ninja shape from Shawnimals' Ninjatown line.

Q. I want to sell Plushform in my store! How can I get them?
A. Thanks for the interest! Contact our wholesale distributor here, and they'll set you up with an account, provide shipment info, pricing and more. If you have any trouble getting a hold of someone, let us know.

Q. I want to put together a Plushform art show. Have any tips?
A. Excellent! We want to help. Check out our Plushform exhibition suggestions tips (COMING SOON!), and let us know when and where your show is so we can add it to the Plushform events calendar (COMING SOON!).

Q. I have a photo of my custom Plushform I want to send you! How do I do that?
A. We have some good news: There's two ways to get an image of your Plushform custom to us: via our Community area here, and on the Plushform Flickr group. Since this is a relatively new medium / product, we're anxious to hear what you do with your Plushform, and hope you'll be a part of our growing community.

Q. I want to see Plushform customs in person! When will there be a show?
A. We hope there's a show nearby very soon, so check the Plushform events calendar (COMING SOON!) for the most up-to-date info on shows around the world. And if, by chance, you can't make it to the show, be sure to view our Plushform Community page where we showcase Plushform pieces from a variety of artists and events all over the world.

Q. Where can I get a Plushform template to sketch out my ideas?
A, You can get a full-sheet Plushform thumbnail template right here (PDF) (COMING SOON!). Print em out as needed and sketch away!
